One of my favourite walks in the Dales takes me over Great Whernside and then South to Sandy Gate, the remote high pass between Nidderdale and Wharfedale. There's still a long way to go to get from the pass back to the safety of the valley and civilization at Hebden, but just before reaching the village you pass through the ruins of the smelting mines, testament to how much industry there was in this area 150 years ago.

16th November .......the Kentmere Round........
Forecast as a fine weekend for walking in the Lakes on Sat we set off to do the Kentmere Round and were rewarded with some great views and fine weather (well it didn't rain). sunday was the opposite with strong winds and driving rain as we battled our way from Hawes Water onto High Street and back down again making for a character building day in the hills.....
All the images taken on Saturday were taken with a Lumix GF1 and a Lee 0.6 hard grad filter
